1st Grade Music
What are we working on in class?
In 1st grade students experience all of the musical elements primarily through movement and playing activities. Students will apply the iconic and symbolic notation to music. We will also be using music to retell several literary stories as students reinforce language skills such as rhyming, the rhythm of the words, and decoding. Using picture books and familiar stories, students will use classroom instruments to create sounds for different animals, insects, and emotions in "sound stories."
Here are some examples of some of the stories we have read and performed in class:

Another cool activity that students will be participating in this year is the Chrome Music Song Lab: musiclab.chromeexperiments.com/ This program is available on ALL student Chromebooks, and allows students to explore music in a fun, creative way! Students will be adding their compositions to student portfolios later this year.
