5th Grade Music
In 5th grade students continue to build on musical skills learned in the previous grades. As part of their musical journey students have the opportunity to participate in the middle school Prelude program, which introduces them to the musical instruments available for participation in at the middle school level. Students will be learning about each instrumental and vocal ensemble: band, orchestra, and chorus, through listening examples and a completion of the Prelude packet. Students will have the opportunity to meet with each of the middle school music directors to try out the instruments of their choice before registration night in January. Additional information will be available soon.
2nd Grade Music
In 2nd grade students begin to associate more of the musical elements to their actual signs and symbols through singing, moving, playing, improvising and composing. In February, students showcase their musical knowledge by presenting a music program that demonstrates the musical skills learned in the areas of the primary musical elements: melody, rhythm, harmony, form, tone color, and expression.
4th Grade Music
In 4th grade students continue to develop in music literacy as they build upon the note-reading and rhythm skills learned in previous years. Rhythms and harmonies become more complex, as more is musically demanded. Students continue to explore various musical forms, styles, and cultures through musical activities such as circle dances, playing Orff instruments, composition, and sight-singing.

1st Grade Music
In 1st grade students experience all of the musical elements primarily through movement and playing activities. Students will apply the iconic and symbolic notation to music.
3rd Grade Music
In 3rd grade students apply their musical knowledge learned to different instruments. One of the primary instruments that students use to demonstrate music literacy is the recorder. Students will study the recorder throughout the year. Students will have the opportunity to progress through the Music Karate program, and earn music belts for repertoire mastered.

WELCH WHITE TIGER CHORUS
Chorus is open to ALL students in 4th and 5th grade. Students involved in singing develop many skills that they can use in school and to be successful in life. Singing is not only FUN, but students involved in singing not only perform better in school, but also develop important life-skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, organization, discipline, and goal-setting. The healthiest way for young singers to develop a strong voice is through participation in a choral ensemble. The District 204 music program provides an awesome experience for young singers to begin vocal training beginning in 4th grade. Students continue to build on these skills as they progress through the vocal program, which provides opportunities until the 12th grade. To be a part of chorus at the elementary level, students must register through the on-line link below, and attend the FIRST REHEARSAL. Rehearsals take place on Tuesday mornings from 8:00-8:50AM in the gym. Don't miss out on this awesome opportunity!
